I had the opportunity to do the story on Kosh. I do have to give credit to Ken for the idea because it turned out to be a great lead. I am very happy with how the story turned out and Kosh is truly amazing. The thing that bugged me the most was when me and Josh had to film Kosh and I felt like such an inconsiderate person filming her go through all this. Its even worse because were were filming her for the sole purpose of what she has to go through after every practice and every meet, but she is so wonderful and she kept telling us "Oh its ok this is an everyday thing". I am just amazed that she can have such high spirits while dealing with her disease.

Allyson McGaha was a former gymnast, but after losing her love for the sport, she became a diver. Slamburn and I decided to tell her story, and there were a few cool things that came along with it.

- First, if you've never been in the basement aquarium of Lewellen Pool during an event, I advise you do so at least one time during your stay at BSU. Just a really cool experience watching people dive in or swim above you.

- I was very surprised to see how hard of a transition the sport of diving has been so far for Allyson. She still lacks even a simple reverse, which as an awful diver in high school, I was able to pull off really really well. It just shows that even though one might have all the skills to do the tricks, it's the mental part of the sport that can be hard to deal with.

- I took the pd-150 up on the high dive to film Allyson below me, and wow is that high! 9.6 feet off the ground, I almost felt as if I was trembling up there. I have no idea how divers such as David Lynn can jump off the boards with wreckless abandon every single day at practice!

- After hearing of my package, Tyler Dixon, the men's lead back-stroke swimmer, has challenged me to a diving contest with his future 2009 Doug Coers Invitational first place t-shirts on the line. I'm really interested to see how this is going to turn out!

This week I and Peter did a story on Sarah Kehe. She is a swimmer, cross country runner and a track runner. She competed in a half iron man competition this past summer and finished 2nd in all females. This was a pretty big finish for her. After interviewing her we found out that she wants to compete in an Iron Man competition. Her cross country coach thinks she could be one of the world’s best if she put 100% to it.

A very important meet to the Ball State swimming and diving family is the Doug Coers Invitational.

A former swimmer for Coach Bob Thomas, Doug graduated and became an assistant coach to the women's swim team along with Coach Laura. After falling in love with the sport and finish grad school, Coers moved to Georiga to start one of the top youth swim clubs "Dynamo".

But over eleven years ago, a day after talking with Coach Laura about sending recruits up to check out Ball State University, Doug Coers died in a car accident. He was thirty years old.

The Doug Coers Invitational is a way for the swimming and diving team to help remember somebody that was a great swimmer, a great coach, and more importantly, a great friend.
