During this week I got to watch a lot of the men’s golf tournament. They put the best they have all season and had their best finish in years. The team finished 2nd, and Brian Maurer finish tied for 2nd overall. This is Brian's 4th year on the team and it is the first time he has ever finished in the top too. After the tournament I heard him talking to his mother and he said "It took four years but I finally got some hardware." I could tell the team was happy with their finish. To add to Brian's success during this week he was named MAC Player of the Week. This is the first time he has ever received this award. This was a great week for the Ball State Men’s Golf team.

The men's golf team doesn’t have another tourney until the 13th of October. They are hoping to build on the success they had last week. They will be looking to Brian Maurer and Andrew Rohdes to lead the team. Both players have already received MAC player of the week awards this year. You can tell by coach Flecks attitude that he is really excited for the rest of the fall season and the real season in the spring. The team only has two more tournements left in the fall and they are hoping to finish good in both.

This week I got know a little bit more about two of the golfers. Brian Maurer and Andrew Rhodes were put under the spot light. We asked them a bunch of off the wall questions. This was the funniest interviews I have done this year. Steve asked some great questions that caught them off guard and had to come up with a quick answer. The best question he asked was "if you could be a plant what kind of plant would you be?" Neither of the players expected this question and really struggled to come up with an answer. I think this is a great way for the viewers to get to know the players away for their sport. I am glad this is an on going series and hope we get someone from all the sports to do it.

The team hasn’t been very busy since my last entry. They had one tournament on the 13th and 14th of October at Xavier. They finished 6th out of 20 teams and finished better than all the other MAC teams. Leading the way for the Cardinals was Senior Brian Maurer who shot 2 under par for the three rounds. The team only has one more tournament left in the fall season. It is coming up this weekend at New Mexico State. The team leaves this coming Saturday morning. After this tournament they don’t have one until March.

Well the Men’s Golf team finished there season this week in New Mexico. Looks like the long flight and warm weather might have affected their game. The team finished second to last. This was one of the teams’ worst performances of the fall season. Ball State got beat by the other two MAC schools in the tourney. Andrew Rhodes and Eric Steger had the best scores on the team. The both tied for 29th. The team can only hope to improve on the fall season. They are done for a couple of months and should come out hungry for a MAC championship in the spring season.

Well the golf season is officially over and the players are back to the books. The team had a winning recorded this season and finish pretty good in the MAC. The upcoming spring season should be good for the Cardinals; they are expected to contend for the MAC championship. This is something all the seasons are looking forward to. During the winter the team still practices. There is a place in Muncie called MD's and it is a heated driving rang. I am hoping to do a story on how the practice there, but since the weather doesn’t want to get cold, they haven’t started to practice there yet. Once the cold comes we should be able to do it.
