I don't think there's a single team that scares me as much as the Ball State men's basketball team from a fan's standpoint.

My freshman year against Butler, we scored a total 16 points in the first half. We then proceeded to lose the most games in history. Bye bye Timmy B.

My sophomore year we beat Northern Colorado's Barber Shop by a total of 39 points. We then proceeded to lose the most games in history, and was ridiculed by Wilbon. Bye bye Ronny T.

My junior year we managed to hang around with a defending Final Four team, fought Butler, lost to UW-Milwaukee in OT, and even played in a rather lackluster MAC field. We then proceeded to lose the most games in history.

What can possibly be in store for the next year?

Honestly, anything could happen and I wouldn't blink an eye. If we beat Purdue off of a Brandon Lampley full-court heave and have a miracle run through the MAC tourney, wouldn't surprise me. If this doesn't win a single game, even when they play each other in scrimmage, I'd just shrug my shoulders.

All and all, it's going to be an exciting year to say the least. Let's just hope it doesn't end with any more school records...

I am working on a story about Anthony Newell. I wanted to do a really hip package with him. My idea was to go bowling with him and a use a sequence of shots to start before I introduced him. However when I tried to setup the interview I was informed by Matt that I can only interview Newell after the weekly press conference on Monday. It's a bummer because the package had so much potential, Newell is a great bowler and that's what he does to relax. I am working on the package in a different way and I am contacting Matt to see if I can interview him in a locker room because the floor is closed during the press conference. I am looking forward to the interview Monday and talking with the Senior leader on the Basketball team.

I interviwed Ball State's sophomore forward Malik Perry yesterday during our volleyball game production. I noticed that he was wearing a soft cast on his left hand which he removed for our interview. I was planning on asking him about it but just didn't have enough time. My sources (whom I can not reveal) tell me that he'll be fine for the season but may need surgery when the season is over. To me, that doesn't sound too good. I hope Malik is good to go for the season. By the way...you can watch the Ball State men's basketball team's season opener next Saturday at 2 PM on ballstatesports.com or Cardinal Vision 57.

First things first, what cameron meant to say was: "By the way...you can watch the Ball State men's basketball team's season opener next Saturday at 2 PM on ballstatesports.com and Cardinal Vision 57.

Saturday, we finally get to see the Men's Basketball team in their season opener. The best part of this day is that Sports Link get to be the first to broadcast the Men's team this season. That's a crucial step for us. Normally, the Ball State Sports Network will broadcast most of the BSU Basketball games, but with Sports Link around, we get the chance to pick up some of the games.

I'm lucky enough to get to direct the game, something I've been looking forward to for a while. This will be a real test for me, and out crew as a whole.

I must quickly point out that you really don't need to watch the game on both cardinal vision57 and ballstatesports.com. If I were you, I'd just watch it on one. Hence the use of the word "or." You may watch it on either or...and I guess if you really want to you can watch it on both. :) Kurt, you're the man!

We are doing a package on Peyton Stovall, but have had to postpone because he was ill. We are shooting for Monday now. We are doing the story on the transition from playing for BSU to working for BSU.

I think we have also talked him into being on Jason's Intermural team next semester. That should help the big

After interviewing Anthony Newell this past week, I learned quite a few interesting things about the two-time captain.

Newell is very spiritual, and says it plays a big role in his life. He includes it in his pregame routine and reads the bible to put everything into perspective.

Newell is extremely nice, and outgoing, and he really has high ambitions for the team this season. As a leader he has helped the freshman to fit in with the team and understand what is expected of them.

When asked who is going to have a big impact for the cardinals. Newell said he was really impressed by freshman center Jarrod Jones, who is 6’9” and adds some height to the men’s team.

Newell joked that it was really nice not being the tallest player on the team this year, and now he is able to focus on playing forward.

While Newell loves basketball he does several things off the court for enjoyment. He love to bowl, and in fact he said he got into because of playing with Bonzi Wells, when he was a freshman.

Newell loves to fish in his free time and he said he got really into bass fishing this summer.

While Newell enjoys his time of the court he is focused when he steps onto the hardwood. And this senior has high hopes for his final year in the Cardinal and White.

Today the Men's Basketball team starts their season. It is the second year under Coach Billy Taylor, and they should come out a lot stronger than they did last year. After finishing last year with a record for least wins in a season (6) and not winning their first game until after Christmas, I think that they will be much improved this year. I think 10-12 wins are not out of the question for this team.

The package I worked on this week focused on Senior Forward Anthony Newall. He talked to us about his pre-game routines, his biggest accomplishment up to this point in his life, and finally having the same coach two years in a row.

This last I worked with BC. We did a package about the men's basketball team and how height has really helped them this year. Things have gone well so far and we are going to make sure that the package is as updated as it can possibly be on Mondya when it needs to be turned in.

The two main differences between this year's team and last year's squad are size and depth. Last year Anthony Newell was the team's tallest player at 6'5". This year the team has three players 6'8" or taller. That includes 6'9" freshman Jarrod Jones who's averaged about 13 points and 7 rebounds per game so far this season.

The depth helps also. Last year the team started the season with nine players on the roster and resorted to finding a few players on the intramural courts to fill their roster. This year they have 15 players to start the season. Must feel like a luxury.

Pete and I were going to do on a story on Jarrod Jones and the difference between college basketball and high school basketball. He had had a big impact so far this year and adds size to the team like BC said.

We got the interview and everything was set up nice. We had him in the looker room with his jersey hanging behind him. We had 4 lights, 3 on him and on that spotlighted the jersey, and it was some ESPN stuff. BUT when we got back to the room the camera messed the tape up and we only got have of the shot and nothing was usable. So we hope get a different interview on Monday.

Well my Final package of the semester was on Jarrod Jones a 6’9 center on the Ball State Basketball team. He was a great interview and thanks to all of the help of the SID we were able to get each player in their shooting shirt and their white jersey’s in the background.

We spent a long time lighting it perfectly and even brought a monitor to make sure it turned out how we imagined it.

Unfortunately for us the camera had an error and because of screws being loose it did not fully record our interview in fact it only record half of the image on the reused tape.

The problem is now I have to figure out another package, and while I requested one with Women’s basketball I am not sure if it will turn out or not. I am scrambling now to find a story.

Other than that BSU basketball has been looking great, and after talking with Jones and Randy Davis, the team is going to continue to get better because of the chemistry the five freshman will have when they are seniors and have four years playing together. It will be exciting to see how good the cardinals will be in four years.

Since Pete and I didn't get to make the Jarrod Jones package, we did one on Malik Perry. He is a sophomore this year, is a pretty funny guy. Before coming to Ball State he originally signed with Iowa, but decided to come to BSU because he would get more playing time. In his interview we found out that he has played against players such as LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Greg Oden, and Dwight Howard. I was very impressed with they competition he has played.

As I said last week our tape did not work for our package on Jarrod Jones. I then planned out a story on the women’s basketball team but because of the conflicts the SID was unable to set up an interview.

So Jason and I changed our story to Malik Perry while he was sidelined for the first game he played a big role on the Basketball last season and was one of two returning players to start every game last year.

The story turned out pretty well but we were limited in B-roll because the first game we could shot was the Purdue game and the Boilermakers defense shut down the cardinals. Perry played for 16 minutes and he only shot one basket and he missed. He had four fouls and no real stats to speak of but Jason did a great Job shooting Highlights.
